RESTON, Va.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Resonate, the only company that empowers political campaigns and issue advocacy organizations to act on why people make decisions, today released new insights on the voting patterns and key issues for North Carolina voters this election season. Healthcare is cited as important to 56 percent of Democratic voters, 41 percent of Republican voters, and 45 percent of swing voters. Swing voters – those who cast votes across party lines – make up 26 percent of North Carolina’s voters. Republican voters are 34 percent of the state’s registered voters, while 32 percent vote Democrat, and 8 percent other.

In addition to healthcare, 60 percent of North Carolina’s Republican voters look to a candidate’s platform on government spending and 55 percent consider balanced budget policy. On the other side of the aisle, 53 percent of Democratic voters prioritize job creation and education policies (50%).  North Carolina’s swing voters other top issues are job creation (53%) and government spending (50%).

“Knowing that healthcare is a top issue for voters of all parties is a big opportunity for statewide candidates in North Carolina.” said Bryan Gernert, Resonate CEO.  “But by individual district, that’s not the case.  In North Carolina’s 11th Congressional District, it is not as important to Republican voters. Defense/Military policies are relatively more important, with 44 percent calling it a top platform issue.”

Resonate found that NC-11 has a higher concentration of Republican voters (39%) than the state average. Democratic voters comprise 26 percent and 27 percent are swing. Top issues for Democratic and swing voters remain the same, though distributed slightly differently.
