Ad Specs and Procedures


Resonate accepts the standard list of ad sizes and formats. Our procedures are industry standard, but please review them. If you have any questions, contact your sales representative.

ACCEPTED SIZES AND FILE FORMATS

STANDARD ADS

  • Standard image formats accepted = GIF, JPG, PNG
    • Maximum file sizes = JPG/GIF should not exceed 40k.
  • Ad Sizes accepted = Standard IAB Ad Units
    • 300×250
    • 728×90
    • 160×600
    • 300×600
  • Animation: Animation length may not exceed 15 seconds; animation may loop up to 3 times
  • Audio must be user-initiated via click
  • All ads with white or light background must include a black 1-pixel border around the ad
  • Max Flash Frames Per Second – 30

RICH MEDIA & EXPANDABLE ADS

  • Rich Media formats accepted = JavaScript, HTML, HTML 5, 3rd Party Tags
    • Flash units are no longer accepted by Resonate
    • Maximum file sizes = Resonate hosted files may not exceed 200K; no limit on creative hosted elsewhere
    • Resonate prefers 3rd party tags for HTML 5 creative but can accept HTML 5 creative asset packages on request.  Resonate cannot host creative asset packages for expandable units.
    • All ads must open in a new browser
    • We require a back-up .jpg or .gif file to accompany all rich media ads
    • For Resonate hosted HTML 5 ads the main HTML file must contain the Javascript variable clickTag, which must be defined as a valid URL.  The main HTML must also contain valid Javascript code which opens a new window with the URL set to the clickTag variable upon ad click.
  • Ad sizes/maximum expansion on HTML (creative pixel size includes banner and panel)
  • Animation length may not exceed 15 seconds; animation may loop up to 3 times
  • Audio must be user-initiated via click
  • Method of expansion and un-expansion must be the same (i.e., mouse-over or click)
  • Mandatory “Close” button in top right corner (unless mouse-over)
  • All ads with white or light background must include a black 1-pixel border around the ad
  • All expandable ads must be able to detect page edge and expand accordingly
  • No restrictions on hotspot location or size
  • Resonate does not support floaters, pop-ups, or interstitials
  • Third party hosted rich media ads accepted
    • Initial file load may not exceed 40k
    • Polite or expanding load may not exceed an additional 200k
    • No limit on streaming video load
    • Subsequent or progressive load may not exceed 2.2mb for video
    • Max panel weight for expandables is 4 panels at 200k

VIDEO PRE-ROLL ADS

  • All formats accepted
  • VAST 2.0/VPAID accepted
  • Under 100mbs for raw video files
  • 16:9 aspect ratio
  • 400×300 size or larger
  • 30 fps 0:15 or 0:30 second duration only
  • Video Codec: H.264
  • Audio Codec: mp3
  • Facebook and Twitter sharing (optional)
  • 300×250 and 728×90 Companion banners are accepted. Inventory for these units is not guaranteed

VIDEO IN-BANNER ADS

  • Third party tags accepted
    • Audio must be user initiated via click
    • Video must be user initiated via click or rollover (in some instances units for click and rollover may be required)
    • Video controls must include at least a pause, play, and mute button
  • Under 100mbs for raw video files
  • 6:5 aspect ratio
  • 300×250 size
  • 0:15 second (recommended)
  • Facebook and Twitter sharing (optional)
  • 300×250 “Teaser” frame required (GIF, PNG, JPG)

RISING STAR AD UNITS

  • Resonate adheres to the IAB recommended guidelines for rising star ad units. A full breakdown of specs can be found at www.iab.com/guidelines/display-rising-stars-ad-units/

NATIVE ADS

  • Static Image Ads
    • Please send 5-10 images for consideration
    • Format: JPEG files
    • Size: 500×500 to 1200×1200 pixels
    • Max weight: 1MB
    • Headline: 30 characters or less (copy should be able to stand alone)
    • Caption: 200 characters or less (copy should be able to stand alone)
    • Logo: JPEG/transparent PNG recommended, 300 pixels, two versions: light and dark
    • Landing page URL: Landing page you wish to drive the clicks to
    • 3rd party tags: All 3rd party trackers are accepted as long as they are 1×1 image tag (optional)
    • Tracking pixels: Please provide tag trafficking worksheet for impression and click trackers in excel format (optional)
  • Video Ads
    • Format: VAST/VPAID Tag or YouTube link, and jpeg/png of static poster frame
    • Size: 960×540
    • Max weight: 1.5 mbps, any length accepted
    • Headline: 30 characters or less (copy should be able to stand alone)
    • Caption: 200 characters or less (copy should be able to stand alone)
    • Logo: JPEG/transparent PNG recommended, 300 pixels, two versions: light and dark
    • Landing page URL: Landing page you wish to drive the clicks to

ADVERTISING SUBMISSIONS PROCEDURES & DEADLINES

SUBMISSION PROCEDURES

  • Static images must be sent in a zip file
  • All 3rd party tags must be sent in a notepad document
  • Resonate has both click-tracking and cache-busting capabilities, and requires that both tokens are inserted into all creative that runs on our server
  • All creative submissions must be accompanied with a click-through URL
  • We require a back-up .jpg or .gif file to accompany all rich media ads

SUBMISSION DEADLINES

  • All Rich Media & Static Images to Resonate Account Manager 3 days prior to campaign start date
  • Flash Campaigns to Resonate Account Manager 5 days prior to campaign start date
  • All creative components must be tested and approved by Resonate prior to launch of campaign
  • The redirect/landing page must be live at least 24 hours before the start of the campaign
  • Political/Public Affairs clientele: “PAID FOR BY” Creative: Submitting an additional version of your creative with “Paid for by” on the bottom corner of the creative will increase the number of sites your ads can run on. This creative will only run on sites that specifically request this language be added to the creative.
  • Pharmaceutical clientele: Scrollable blackbox warning must be present on all ads and ads must be in rich media; scrollable features cannot be accommodated in animated Gif/Jpeg files
FACEBOOK EXCHANGE AD SPECS

FBX STANDARD RHS CREATIVE SPECIFICATIONS

  • Headline: 25-character limit; 1-character minimum; 20-character limit per individual word
  • Body Copy: 90-character limit; 1-character minimum; 20-character limit per individual word
  • Image: 254×133 (or larger with 1.9:1 aspect ratio) will result in a large format ad. Recommended size: 600×315, as this matches the minimum for News Feed. You will also need to remember one image spec for FBX.
  • The redirect/landing page must be live at least 24 hours before the start of the campaign
  • Landing page URL: 800-character limit; 3rd-party click trackers are accepted. Please QA to ensure that the subsequent chain works properly, e.g., from ad server to LP
  • Both Title and Body text have the following constraints:
    • Cannot start with punctuation
    • Cannot have duplicate consecutive punctuation characters with the exception of 3 periods
    • Words cannot be greater than 20 characters in length
    • Only 2 consecutive 1 character words are allowed
    • Cannot consist entirely of capital letters
    • Double spacing is not allowed
  • The following characters are not allowed:
    • IPA Symbols
    • Diacritical Marks
    • Superscript and Subscript characters with the exception of ™ and ℠
    • The following characters \^~_={}[]|<>

GENERAL STANDARD AD BEST PRACTICES

  • Volume: We recommend running between 4 (2 images X 2 copy) and 9 (3 images X 3 copy) total creatives
  • Text: Include a strong call to action, and highlight sales and promotions if applicable
  • Images: Test various image types if assets are readily available. Categories include people, products, logos, and offer-based images. If these types of image are unavailable, just use 2 or 3 of the top-performing images from an existing Facebook campaign, or from display

PAGE POST ADS (NEWS FEED OR RHS)

  • The type of PPA available to FBX is known as a Link ad. Other formats such as Video, Photo, etc, are not available on FBX for the foreseeable future.
  • Dimensions – Large format: recommended 1200×627, minimum 600×315. Small format: recommended 200×200, minimum 154×154.
    • mages 600×315 or larger (1200×627 recommended for maximum resolution) appear in a large format layout with a strict 1.9:1 aspect ratio enforced. Images 200×200 and smaller (absolute minimum 154×154) will appear in a smaller format.
  • Recommended k-size: 50k. Max 2MB
  • Specs:
    • Please note overall text limits:
    • Message (500 char max) – a summary/headline for the post
    • Link URL (800 char max) – aka click through URL. NOT for display
    • Link Name (100 char max) – the title of the page the user is linking to
    • Link Domain for display –(100 char max, 1 line max) the domain of the landing page (e.g. www.resonateinsights.com). Do not include the “http://” or “https://” prefix
    • Description – a secondary note to users. (200 char max)
  • Creative text limit:
    • Creative images may not include more than 20% text.

  • Please note that your brand logo will automatically be pulled in from your FB page to appear in the top left corner of the News Feed ad

RESTRICTIONS

  • Links to Facebook destinations: Page Post Ads CANNOT link to Facebook pages. FBX is purely for off-site objectives and any on-Facebook marketing objectives can be better achieved through other Facebook ad products. If you try creating a PPA that links to somewhere on facebook.com, you will receive the error “Invalid RTB Spec, Invalid Page Post To Sponsor – The specified page post cannot be sponsored.”
